Tirana – Elbasan motorway, Krrabe, Albania

The Tirana-Elbasan motorway is part of the Albanian A3 motorway and connects Tirana with Pan-European Corridor VIII. It has 21 bridges and a 2.3km twin tunnel crossing the Krrabe hills. The construction of the tunnel started in April 2011 and was delivered in June 2013. The main contractor was AKTOR SA.

Algosystems undertook the design, installation and commissioning of the following:

  • Integration of open road SCADA and tunnel subsystems in 1 twin tunnel with a total length of 2.4km.
  • Traffic Management System
  • Emergency IP Telephony and CCTV System
  • Linear fire detection system with optical fiber
